This week we started a Raisin in the Sun, and assigned characters to people for reading. So far we've really just learned that this family lives in one house and has lots of money problems and cannot afford much. Every argument deals with money. Mama gets all of it but there are thoughts that she should share some with the family instead of taking it all from her husband, this also causes conflict. Mama thinks the world shouldn't revolve around money and only that. We also met two men who Beneatha seems to have relation with, maybe a chance to be her husband. So far we have only gotten part way through Act 2 and there is more for us to learn about the family.

This week we wrote and finished up our comparative analysis papers. I learned that I need to work on those skills needed for writing papers, I lose topics throughout mine and don't keep things well understandable. Along with that we started reading the play a Raisin in the Sun, and making music connections. We talked about how the connections will help us better understand what we are reading. This week we mainly read October Sky discussing what happened through the chapters. After the chapter groupings we read ourselves outside of class we came back and filled out our character charts. As class groups we were assigned different characters to give new traits we've noticed. After that we discussed and learned why we thought that way of them and explained. Right now we are trying to get through the book and make sure we are comprehending the characters and what's going on. This week before we started reading October Sky we watched some videos. They were on the years of 1930’s and 1950’s. We compared and contrasted the years as a class on the board to help us understand the major differences between the years. After the videos we started the book and have read chapters 1-3 so far. We’ve met several characters and learned their characteristics logging them into a chart we have. This will help us keep track of who is who and what they are like. We started off this week finishing our Journals for of Mice and Men then went into watching the movie. There were some certain differences between the two and were quite noticeable. For example the way the characters looked differed between the movie and book along with the fact that we never saw the visions that were talked about that Lennie had. The ones of his own aunt Clara and the white rabbit talking to him. As we watched the movie we were actually able to see and understand the relationships with the characters and how it affected certain aspects of their life. Like how Curley visibly treated his wife very poorly and controlled her every move. Or how Lennie was always making mistakes putting more work on George to keep them payed and well fed. This went into the article we read yesterday where we learned some science terms for the relationships we saw. Some of the words were symbiosis, mutualism, and parasitism. Most of the words we could relate to certain instances in of Mice and Men and the relationships following them. This week we finished of Mice and Men and discussed the ending. Lennie and George had a very strong relationship as if George was Lennie's father. This drove Lennie to stay loyal to George. The book ended sadly with George killing Lennie out of fear that Curley and the other guys would get to him first and make him suffer for what he had done. Along with that we talked about the visions Lennie had before his death and what they meant to him. He was sad about not being able to have a farm and tend the rabbits. His visions included a giant white rabbit and his aunt Clara telling him that George was so good to him but he kept doing bad things. We also heard different thoughts of the meanings behind the visions from the class. This week we haven't done too much having a sub for two of the five days. Though on the days we did have Mr. Schoenborn we talked through what we will do over this trimester with the new people in this class. The new students learned what our schedule will look like for every week. They also learned out of surprise that we do not take any quizzes or tests at all. On thursday we began the start of finding our big question that deals with how relationships have many purposes and discussed different words we could use in place for them. I also found a book that I really do like called caring is creepy. I have really grown to like books in this class. I feel like by me not feeling I learned much the start of this new trimester shows how much I really did learn last tri. |
